Like all young people who had received a modern education, they saw nothing wrong in a love that straddled nations. On the contrary, it was awesome, super, the best.

However, the first floor of the Lemon Hotel looked just like a convenience store, with its penetrating light and air conditioning on full blast. The owner would sit at the register, waiting for you to pay for a room and take a lemon—only one, never more! Pay for one night at the hotel and get a perfect lemon! How wonderful! I put away my lemon. It was my lemon, a sweet and cool lemon.

    Fortunately, I kept the receipt,
and on it are these words: ten vases of innocence, nine packages of red dates,
seven bunches of purity, six sacks of lilies, and
five stacks of calm, mailed at three different times.

What if this poem has nothing to live off
Like a hungry dog at the door to the grocery store
    Hunting through the refuse
    Still finding nothing…

He imagined that the things he saw were stored inside eyes that stared at him from the surrounding darkness. The eyes were stars, were shining nails that pinned up the darkness above his head. The dome of eternal night, an infinite dome embedded in her body, completely enclosing him within her.

The work proceeds in the spirit of experimentation —trying, risking, seeing what might erupt or seep out when we prod it.
